Story

A small boat carries passengers through churning blue rapids, hemmed in by steep rocky cliffs and forested mountain slopes rising on either side. The composition conveys the force of the current against the stillness of the surrounding peaks. This color woodblock print, titled The Hozu Rapids (Shoka no Hozu-gawa), was created in 1924 by Miki Suizan (1887–1957), a Japanese painter and printmaker.
