Story

A dreamlike scene unfolds with vivid blossoms and strange, organic shapes set against a dark backdrop, while two figures draped in white robes stand to the right. The forms seem to float free of any ordinary garden, suggesting something closer to vision than observation. This oil painting was made in 1905 and is held at the Princeton Art Museum. Odilon Redon (1840–1916), a French artist associated with Symbolism, is known for the notable work Les Yeux clos. One detail worth noticing is how the pale robes of the two figures catch light against the surrounding darkness, drawing the eye toward their quiet, almost ghostly presence amid the colorful chaos of flowers and shapes.
