Story
Vertical masses of green foliage rise against brown tree trunks, the forms simplified into blocks of muted earth tones that organize the scene into a composed, abstracted arrangement rather than a literal view of nature. This oil painting, titled Landscape, was made in 1912 by Patrick Henry Bruce, an American painter (1881–1936) who worked within cubism, reducing the natural scene into structured, interlocking planes of color.
