Story
Triangular fragments of yellow, red, brown, and green scatter across the sheet, forming an abstract landscape of jagged shapes. A small figure climbs a ladder near the center, while scattered handwritten names drift among the geometric fields like scattered notes. The piece was made with watercolor and ink on paper in 1919, by Paul Klee, a German-Swiss artist associated with Expressionism and the Bauhaus. It entered the museum through purchase from the Estate of Karl Nierendorf.
Where it works
Pastel artwork suited to living rooms and kids' rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
