Cockscomb with praying mantis

Story

A red cockscomb flower rises on green leaves, its dense bloom catching the eye while a praying mantis and a few small insects share the cream-toned space beside it. The image is rendered as a hand-colored engraving, pairing botanical precision with naturalistic insect detail. Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731–1807), a French botanist, entomologist, and jurist, created this plate as part of his broader scientific documentation of plants and the creatures found among them.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to libraries and dining rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
