Story

A spray of orange dahlias rises amid green leaves, with blue rocks and grass below and a dragonfly hovering nearby, all set against a cream background. The composition is rendered as a hand-colored engraving, blending botanical precision with delicate color work. Its creator, Pierre Joseph Buchoz (1731–1807), was a French botanist whose scientific interests extended to entomology, reflected here in the careful pairing of plant and insect.
