Story

A vividly blue room opens onto tall windows, beyond which rooftops of a city press close against the glass. Inside, loose sketches lean against the walls, small sculpted forms sit among scattered furnishings, and every surface seems washed in cool color. Raoul Dufy painted this scene in oil in 1935, working within the French Fauvist current. The Phillips Collection holds the piece, acquired for its collection in 1944.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
