Kandinsky: Life and Work

Story

A tan ground holds an arrangement of black, red, and cream shapes, with an oval form, suggestions of sailboats, and sharp angular elements set across the surface. The composition is built in gouache over black and red ink, with an underlying graphite drawing, dated 1930. Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) worked within the Bauhaus movement, bringing an abstract, geometric vocabulary to this piece.
