Gloucester Harbor

Story

A green slope leads the eye down toward blue water in a New England harbor, where sailing ships rest near waterfront buildings along the shore. Masts and rooftops appear together above the water, giving the scene its sense of a working port caught in a quiet moment. This oil painting, titled Gloucester Harbor, was created in 1895 by Willard LeRoy Metcalf, an American painter associated with Impressionism, who lived from 1858 to 1925.
