Sponge Fishermen, Bahamas

Story

Boats carrying sponge fishermen drift near shoreline structures with palm trees in the background, the scene built from washes of blue, green, and earthy brown. Small figures work among the vessels, suggesting the quiet labor of the harbor. This watercolor, titled Sponge Fishermen, Bahamas, was created in 1885 by Winslow Homer (1836–1910), an American artist associated with realism, known also for painting, illustration, and photography.
