A Stream in the Rocky Mountains

Story

A rushing mountain stream cuts through a wooded canyon, its waters churning white against rocks while a single figure rests on a fallen log, surrounded by muted greens, whites, and browns. Albert Bierstadt completed this oil painting in 1882. Bierstadt, a German-American painter associated with the Hudson River school, held citizenship in the United States. The piece is part of the Elizabeth Holmes Fisher Collection at the USC Fisher Museum of Art.
