Story

Snow-capped peaks rise in the distance, while below them forested slopes, open meadows, and scattered rocks spread across the lower ground in warm greens and browns. The scene centers on the Sierra Nevada and its surrounding foothills, rendered as a landscape painting. Albert Bierstadt (1830–1902), a German-American artist associated with the Hudson River school, also painted North Dome, Yosemite Valley.
