Story

Snow-capped peaks rise above a sweeping valley, with a waterfall spilling down forested slopes and golden light settling across open meadows under a hazy sky. The composition captures a sense of vast, layered wilderness, from icy summits to sunlit lowlands. Painted in oil in 1853, the work comes from Albert Bierstadt, a German-American artist associated with the Hudson River school, whose career also included work as a painter and photographer.
