Passing Storm in Yosemite

Story

A rugged valley opens beneath towering cliffs, with trees scattered across the land and small figures standing below heavy storm clouds. Golden light breaks through the darkness overhead, giving the scene a dramatic contrast of shadow and brightness. This oil painting was created in 1865 by Albert Bierstadt, a German-American artist who lived from 1830 to 1902 and worked within the Hudson River school tradition.
