Head of a Roe Deer

Story

A roe deer's head faces the viewer, its antlers rising above a finely observed face rendered in soft browns, tans, and touches of black against aged paper. The texture of fur and the structure of bone are built up through careful layered strokes, giving the animal a quiet, lifelike presence. Done in pen and ink and watercolour, the sheet comes from Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), a German artist associated with the German Renaissance.

Where it works

Pastel artwork suited to libraries and dining rooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
