Story

A powerful man pulls back his bow, aiming at flying creatures above him, while ruined buildings and scattered trees fill the surrounding landscape. The scene is rendered in oil on panel, dated 1600, held at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. The piece carries the title Hercules and the Stymphalian birds, attributed to Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), a German artist tied to the German Renaissance, also remembered for Adam and Eve.
