Story

A tall cathedral rises above a cluster of smaller buildings, its arches and rooftops rendered in fine, careful lines that capture the structure's height and surrounding streetscape. The drawing was made in silverpoint on paper in 1520 by Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), a German artist associated with the German Renaissance. Dürer also worked as a copper engraver, art theorist, and designer, and created the notable work Adam and Eve.
