Story

A small bird appears three times on the page, each pose turned to catch a different view of its form, with touches of pink, black, and green set against pale cream paper. The sheet is worked in watercolor and gouache, a close study of plumage and posture rather than a finished scene. Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), a German artist associated with the German Renaissance, produced this careful observation of nature.
