Story

A hilltop fortress rises above a valley scattered with houses, olive groves, and farmed plots rendered in soft greens and earthy browns. The scene stretches across layered ground, with the stronghold set against distant slopes. Albrecht Dürer made this view using pen and ink with watercolor on paper in 1495. He worked within the German Renaissance, and the piece belongs to the Louvre Museum's collection.
