Story
A face emerges from geometric fragments, built from purple, yellow, and blue shapes crossed by dark lines against a pale backdrop, suggesting a solemn, mask-like presence rather than a realistic likeness. The piece was made in oil on paper laid on canvas in 1921. Alexei Jawlensky (1864–1941), a German artist associated with Expressionism, created this work, known for pieces such as Abstract Head.
