Story
A woman gazes outward, her face stretched long, her skin pale against dark hair, framed by a background shaded in brown and blue tones. The composition favors quiet, somber hues over bright detail, giving the sitter a still, contemplative presence. This oil portrait was completed in 1918 by Amedeo Modigliani (1884–1920), a painter and sculptor associated with modern art, whose citizenship was in the Kingdom of Italy, and who also created a notable portrait of Chaïm Soutine.
Where it works
A warm-toned portrait suited to living rooms and dens, and to hotel guest rooms, in a vertical format.
