Story

A diagram of lunar epicycles fills the page, built from concentric circles meant to track the moon's motion within an earth-centered universe. Latin inscriptions label the geometry, while cherubs drift through clouded borders framing the celestial scheme. This is Plate 18 from Harmonia Macrocosmica, created in the seventeenth century. Andreas Cellarius (1596–1665) worked as an astronomer, cartographer, and geographer, holding Dutch-German citizenship tied to the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire.

Where it works
