Plate 19 from Harmonia Macrocosmica

Story

A circular chart maps the moon's changing phases, set in rings that orbit a central Earth, while a radiant sun and small cherubs occupy the corners. The composition belongs to Plate 19 from the Harmonia Macrocosmica, an astronomical atlas. Andreas Cellarius, who lived from 1596 to 1665, worked as an astronomer, cartographer, and geographer, holding Dutch-German citizenship tied to both the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to libraries and dens, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
