Plate 20 from Harmonia Macrocosmica

Story

A baroque engraving presents the heavens through nested colored rings mapping planetary paths, with Latin inscriptions explaining the celestial order. Plump cherubs frame the diagram, lending it an ornamental, theatrical quality typical of early scientific illustration. This is Plate 20 from Harmonia Macrocosmica. Andreas Cellarius, who lived from 1596 to 1665, worked as an astronomer, cartographer, and geographer within the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire.

Where it works

Pastel artwork suited to libraries and studies, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
