Story

A round celestial chart fills the composition, its sky crowded with constellations rendered as mythological figures and animals, drifting among clouds and watchful putti in soft blues, greens, and earthen hues. This is Plate 27, created by Andreas Cellarius. Cellarius worked as an astronomer, cartographer, and geographer, holding Dutch-German citizenship tied to both the Dutch Republic and the Holy Roman Empire, and he lived from 1596 to 1665.

Where it works

Warm-toned artwork suited to libraries and living rooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
