Story
A tight black and white view fills the frame with lichen spreading across stone, its circular and irregular shapes forming a dense, mottled texture. The image comes from a black and white negative made in 1942, titled for its setting in Glacier National Park, Montana. Ansel Adams (1902–1984), an American documentary photographer, environmentalist, and mountaineer, captured this detail. The piece came through the Branch of Still and Motion Pictures.
