Story
Snow-covered peaks loom above a river that curves through a wooded valley, rendered entirely in black and white. The composition sets the sharp mountain ridges against the soft flow of water below, with dense forest filling the lower ground. This is a negative made in 1942 by Ansel Adams (1902–1984), an American documentary photographer, environmentalist, and mountaineer. The piece came from the Branch of Still and Motion Pictures.
Where it works
Suited to living rooms and dens, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
