Story
Loose pencil lines trace abstracted organic shapes and boat forms across the white paper, touched with bursts of yellow, orange, and red that break up the quiet linework. The piece, titled Virginia-Summer, is rendered in pencil and crayon on paper by Arshile Gorky (1904–1948), an Armenian-American artist tied to abstract expressionism, action painting, and modern art. The sheet entered the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston as a gift from Oveta Culp Hobby.
