Story

A thin crescent moon rises over a thick stand of grain, the stalks packed close together in strokes of blue, yellow, green, and earthy brown. The composition sets the pale curve of light against the darker, textured mass of the field below. Arthur Illies, a German draftsperson and etcher, created this piece in 1896, working also as an exlibrist within his German artistic practice.
