Story
A streetcar marked 39 moves along a city street, with aged buildings rising behind it on either side. The gelatin silver print, made in 1938 by Berenice Abbott (1898–1991), documents this corner of Manhattan near the old post office at Park Row and Broadway. Abbott worked as an American architectural photographer within the straight photography movement. The print is held by the New York Public Library, credited to the Miriam and Ira D. Wallach Division of Art, Prints and Photographs.
