Story
A small sailboat drifts on dark brown water, its white sail catching the last light beneath a shadowed, heavy sky. The scene captures the quiet close of day over the harbour, rendered with a muted, moody palette. This piece was painted in oil on cardboard in 1888. Charles Conder (1868–1909) was an Australian painter who also worked in the United Kingdom, and his notable work includes A holiday at Mentone.
