Story
A groom dressed in a red coat stands beside a saddled chestnut horse, positioned near a stone building beneath a sky filled with clouds. The horse, named Eclipse, was bred in 1764 by H.R.H. Wm. Cuke of Cumberland, sired by Marsk, who descended from Squirt and Gartletts Childers, with lineage tracing to Flying Childers. This hand-colored aquatint dates to 1839 and is held at the Yale Center for British Art. The print was made by Charles Hunt, after a composition by George Stubbs. One detail worth noticing is how the horse's reddish coat stands out sharply against the pale stone wall and muted gray clouds behind it, drawing the eye to its calm, upright stance beside its handler.
