Bucks County Barn

Story

A cluster of connected farm buildings dominates the scene, their walls painted in red and white, with wooden fencing running alongside and a small shed set under an open blue sky. The barns and outbuilding form simple blocks of color and shape against the land. Charles Sheeler made this oil painting in 1940, working within the Precisionism movement, which favored sharp lines and ordered rural and industrial forms. The piece came into the collection through the Daniel J. Terra Collection.
