Story
Boats rest at anchor beside a timber pier, with a shoreline town rising beyond the water, its pale church spire marking the skyline. Gentle blues, greens, and earthen hues give the harbor a quiet, atmospheric calm. Childe Hassam painted this oil work in 1899, bringing an Impressionist sensibility to the coastal scene. The piece came to the Newark Museum as a gift from Mrs. J. Russell Parsons.
