Story

A soft moon climbs behind a screen of bare branches, its glow dissolving into a hazy landscape of peach, grey, and white. The quiet scene suggests dusk settling over open ground, with the tree limbs forming a loose dark lattice against the fading sky. Painted in oil on pulpboard in 1930, the work reflects the tonalist sensibility of Australian painter Clarice Beckett (1887–1935).
