Story
A quiet riverbank unfolds with trees in yellow and green lining calm water, a cluster of moored boats resting near the shore, and a town visible in the distance beneath a soft, pale sky. The reflections on the surface echo the colors above, giving the whole view a sense of stillness along the Seine. This painting, titled Autumn on the Seine, Argenteuil, was made in 1873 by Claude Monet using oil, and it is held at the High Museum of Art. Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926 and worked as a French painter, is associated with Impressionism and also created Impression, Sunrise. One detail worth noticing is how the boats sit so still against the water that their shapes nearly blend with the trees mirrored beside them, reinforcing the calm of the autumn scene.
