Story

Boats rest at a dock, their pale and dark sails lowered, while small groups of figures stand along the pier watching the water. The scene is rendered in soft blues, browns, and yellows, giving the harbor a quiet, overcast feel. This oil study was made in 1866 by Claude Monet, a French painter associated with Impressionism, whose later works include Impression, Sunrise.
