Story
A quiet village along a riverbank appears across the water, its trees and buildings mirrored in the still surface beneath a soft, hazy sky washed in pale yellows, blues, and greens. The painting, titled Bords de la Seine à Lavacourt, was created in 1879 by Claude Monet using oil, and it is held at the Frick Art & Historical Center. Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926, was a French painter associated with Impressionism, the movement that reshaped how light and atmosphere were captured on canvas. One detail worth noticing is how the reflections blur the line between the village and the water, giving the whole scene a sense of stillness and dissolving form, as color seems to drift gently between sky, land, and river in a way that softens every edge of the composition.
