Story
A quiet waterway runs through Amsterdam, its surface rendered in soft blues and greys, with a church tower rising in the distance and loose, atmospheric brushwork giving the scene a sense of movement and light. Greens along the water add further depth to the composition. The piece was made by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also known for Haystacks.
Where it works
Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to restaurants, in a horizontal format.
