Story
Small sailboats with pale sails move across water tinted blue and green, set beneath cliffs of white and grey stone under a soft, pale sky. The composition balances the open sea against the solid rock, giving the coastal view a calm, airy feel. This piece, titled Cliffs and Sailboats at Pourville, is the work of Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also known for Impression, Sunrise.
Where it works
Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
