Cliffs at Pourville

Story

A rugged stretch of coastline rises in pale white and soft blue tones above a bright turquoise sea, with a stretch of sand lying open in the foreground and a small boat resting near the water's edge. The scene forms the landscape painting Cliffs at Pourville, created in 1882 by Claude Monet. Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926 and was French, worked within the Impressionism movement and also painted Impression, Sunrise. Worth noticing is how the layered rock face catches the light differently along its height, giving the cliffs a sense of texture against the smooth expanse of water below.

Where it works

Cool-toned artwork suited to living rooms and bedrooms, and to hotel guest rooms, in a horizontal format.
