Story

A terracotta-colored house sits amid trees in full bloom, with a view opening onto a Mediterranean shoreline beneath a sky filled with blue and drifting white clouds. The scene stretches toward the water, giving a sense of warm light settling over the coast. Claude Monet painted this view in 1888, rendering it in oil on canvas; the work is held at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Monet, who lived from 1840 to 1926, worked within Impressionism and also created Impression, Sunrise. One detail worth noticing is how the blossoming trees frame the house, softening its solid form against the open expanse of sea and sky beyond.
