Story
Tall palms rise on either side of the composition, opening onto a view of a villa and its surrounding structures beneath an open blue sky. The scene captures the Moreno Gardens, rendered as a landscape painting in oil, completed in 1884. It belongs to the Norton Museum of Art, having entered the collection through the bequest of R. H. Norton. Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, is also known for his notable work Haystacks. Worth noticing is how the palm fronds curve inward, their silhouettes framing the distant buildings and drawing the eye toward the sunlit depth of the garden beyond.
