Story
A snow-covered field holds two cone-shaped haystacks, their rounded forms rising against pale winter light while blue shadows stretch across the ground beneath them. The composition captures a brief, cold moment in a rural setting, with the stacks standing as the central subjects against the muted snow. Painted in 1891, this oil on canvas belongs to the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also created the notable work Impression, Sunrise. Looking closely, the blue shadows cast by the haystacks add a cool contrast to the surrounding snow, giving the scene a sense of stillness and quiet winter atmosphere.
