A grand hotel rises beside a seaside walkway, French flags lifting in the breeze while figures in period dress stroll beneath a blue sky scattered with white clouds. Painted in oil in 1870, the scene belongs to Claude Monet, a French painter and graphic artist associated with Impressionism, also known for Impression, Sunrise. The work is held at the Musée d'Orsay.
