Story
A stone bridge arcs over a river, its underside framing a glimpse of distant buildings and trees, all painted in soft greens, browns, and blues. Claude Monet completed this oil painting in 1873, capturing the span known as the Highway Bridge seen from the port. The piece belongs to Impressionism, a movement associated with Monet, a French painter. It entered the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts from the collection of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Mellon.
