Story
Pale blossoms drift across a pond, their petals scattered among rounded leaves that spread over water tinted blue and violet. The brushwork stays loose and soft, letting color blur at the edges so the surface seems to shimmer rather than sit still. Painted in oil by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French artist associated with Impressionism, the piece entered the Los Angeles County Museum of Art through the Mrs. Fred Hathaway Bixby Bequest.
