Story
Jagged cliffs rise above turquoise water, rendered in muted blues, greens, and browns beneath a cloudy sky. The composition centers on this rocky coastline, giving the sea a restless, textured surface against the stone. Painted in oil in 1887, the work shows Claude Monet's attention to shifting natural light. Monet, who lived 1840–1926, was a French painter associated with Impressionism, also known for Haystacks.
