Story

A curving path cuts through gentle hills, drawing the eye toward a small village tucked within a river valley, painted in muted blues, greens, and golden tones. Claude Monet created this oil painting in 1879. The piece reflects his place within Impressionism, the movement associated with his French roots. It has been part of The Phillips Collection since being acquired in 1920.
