Story
The west front of Rouen Cathedral rises in a glow of gold, blue, and soft pink, as the sun's last light settles across the stone facade. Its carved details dissolve into shimmering color rather than sharp outline. This oil painting was made in 1892 by Claude Monet (1840–1926), a French painter associated with Impressionism, also known for Haystacks and Impression, Sunrise.
